Simultaneous Interpretation
Simultaneous interpretation is always performed with the support of Simultaneous Translation Systems. The interpreter listens to the original speech through headphones and simultaneously translates into a microphone that transmits his or her voice to receivers given to the participants.
Simultaneous interpretation is a very complex activity, especially if one considers that the interpreters must be able to do at least six things at once: listen, understand, think, translate, speak and remember what came before! International regulations restrict individual interpreters from working for more than one hour; a team of two interpreters cannot exceed 7 hours, meaning that a third interpreter should be hired for more than 7 hours. |
