TRANSLATION

How much does a translation cost?

The cost of a translation depends on the following:
  • From the number of words of the source text. The words are calculated by a tailored programme. You can also check the word count from the Word programme, which is similar. Remember that images are not recognised.
  • The source and target language. Rates differ from one language to another.
  • Whether the translation is between two languages other than Italian, such as English and French.
  • Whether only the translation is required, or additional services are also desired.
  • Whether the task is urgent: if you wish to have a text translated at an average rate of more than 1,500-1,800 words per day by a single translator, an additional 30% charge is applied to the base rates.

How can we save on our translation costs?

  • To facilitate our task, and, consequently, to let us help you save money, it is crucial that you send us the final version of the files to be translated: any work-in-progress corrections require the translator to review the changes you have made, as well as the rest of the document to see if the surrounding context has changed as well.
  • Always send us files that may be overwritten or may be processed with CAT programmes. Sending us a PDF file is like sending us your document on paper.
  • If you have already had some documents translated by us or by another translator with whom you were satisfied, send them to us along with the document to be translated. We will compare them and see if there are similar sections allowing us to save our translator time and you money.
  • If you need to allocate a considerable budget for a large translation project, please contact us, we can offer you special rates.

How long does it take to translate a document?

The standard timeframe, without applying rates for urgent jobs, is 1,500-1,800 words, per day. Several dozens of pages can be translated in a single day by dividing the project amongst a team of translators working together. This cuts down on the time considerably, but makes it difficult to ensure that the final style of the document is perfectly uniform. An individual translator, depending on his or her abilities and the type of file, can translate up to 2,500-3,000 words per day.

Do your translators always work alone?

This is one of the fundamental guidelines to be followed. An individual translator ensures style uniformity and the best possible understanding of the terms used. Please remember that translators do not work in one direction only, i.e. from the beginning to the end of the document; rather, they constantly revise and modify the text they have already translated as they progress and their understanding of the text they are translating evolves. We usually assign the same translators to our customers in order to ensure the greatest possible continuity.

What should we do to prepare our documents for translation?

Please remember to send us an editable file and not a PDF file or paper document; include a previous translation that you found satisfactory, if you have one; provide useful references for building a glossary, if you do not already have one; let us know if you need to have other similar documents translated that you would like to have done by the same translator to ensure a uniform vocabulary.

We have a large file that we cannot send by-email. What should we do?

Our web server is designed precisely for these occurrences. All the files to be translated and additional documents can be uploaded to our server and then downloaded by us. This process can obviously be repeated in reverse when we deliver the translated document. One of our PMs will provide you with a user ID and password to allow you to access the server.

TRANSCRIPTION

How are transcription fees calculated?

The cost is based on the length of the audio file to be transcribed. The length is rounded up to the nearest full minute.

What format should I provide for transcription?

Any support is fine. Remember that there are no additional charges if an audio CD audio or mp3 file or other audio format is transcribed. In all other cases , (VHS, AUDIO TAPE, DVD, DAT, etc) there is a decoding charge.
